About Sergio Panagìa
I deal with User Experience Design and Web Development.
I graduated in Computer Science at the University Of Milan, in Italy; my final thesis treated design and development of a Social Intranet for my atheneum, following know-how guidelines achieved by studying state of the art of modern Enterprise 2.0 solutions.
The web has been, in last years, my focus point of attentions and studies: design and development with a strong orientation to W3C standards and Human-Machine Interaction (HCI) contemplating both usability and user experience aspects.
For these reasons, in the context of development, I am dedicating mainly to the recent technological innovations that allow for significantly improving the user experience from the point of view of usability. All thanks to the integration of cutting edge, web compliant and mobile-aware technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and advanced JavaScript.
I’m both user experience designer and technical specialist: interested in usability engineering, project management, UI design, cognitive neuropsychology, prototyping.
Finding myself comfortable with a wide range of web development technologies: Ruby on rails, JavaScript, PHP and more.
Short Bio
It all started at the last year of high school, when for my final thesis (year 2006 – yeah that one!) I studied the Web 2.0 era under its social aspect and reflects upon business.
Anyway, despite Italy is a very beautiful country, there is not a real, general good-looking for innovations, so no-one understood what I was explaining.
Before starting my University journey, I begun doing some freelance jobs for some firms willing to enter in Second Life (what a cool time).
Step after step, after beginning Computer Science at the University Of Milan, I fell in love with Web Development, but I was totally in disagree with all those pseudo-Joomla consultants and their fake-web agency demanding a lot of money (maybe just for a theme installation) and making the Web so ugly.
So I started studying and working to become a specialist with front-end (after a bit of pure javascript I liked a lot MooTools library) and later on back-end (PHP first, then Ruby on Rails).
During my studies in computer science I had the chance to learn from some of the precursors of HCI (Human Computer Interaction) in Italy: since then, I’ve been fascinated about Usability and UCD (User Centered Design), realizing that the most important thing, even more significant than technological choices, is to guarantee the best user experience achievable.
I always thought that technology is much relevant if you have a correct User Experience in your mind; so every thing I do, and every post I write on this blog, is not a standalone snippet of code, but aims to be a technique to give User a better experience and usability.
